How to use the time card calculator

  1. Choose a weekly or biweekly pay period.
  2. Enter each clock-in and clock-out time. Add unpaid break minutes and a second shift when needed.
  3. Set an hourly rate, weekly overtime threshold or time-rounding rule if they apply.
  4. Review the live totals, then print, copy or download the result.

Example calculation

A shift from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM is 8 hours 30 minutes elapsed. Subtracting a 30-minute unpaid break produces 8 hours worked, or 8.00 decimal hours.

Worked minutes = rounded clock-out − rounded clock-in − unpaid break

Overnight shifts, overtime and rounding

If an end time is earlier than its start time, ClockSlate treats the end as the following day. Weekly hours above the threshold are shown as overtime; in a biweekly card, each seven-day week is evaluated independently. Time rounding changes the clock events before the worked duration is calculated.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enter military time?

Yes. Select 24-hour format and enter values such as 1730 or 17:30. Entries with AM or PM are also understood.

Does the calculator save employee data?

No employee name is requested. Your entries and calculations remain in the browser. Only the optional settings you explicitly save are kept in local browser storage.

Is overtime always due after 40 hours?

No. Rules vary by location, employer and occupation. The 40-hour default is editable and the result should be checked against the policy and law that apply to you.
